What Customers Say About HP Pavilion DV5-1010US 15.4-inch Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Black:

I bought a laptop in 2008 and in least than 6 months the laptop went 3 times to HP Service and they changed cables, memory and other stuff. nop. Therefore because they said that the warranty does not matter and I have to pay.

They told me I have to pay $318.86 even with the laptop is under warranty because they said I brokeYou can see that it's a low quality laptop (but not cheap, I paid $1200 for it) because it went to technical services 4 times in least than year. When I complained about it and asked for a Supervisor who can explain me that case to me in Spanish they said: in 24 hours someone speaking Spanish is going to call you. And I'm not supergirl with steel fingers. Some months later and still least than a year after I bought it, the touch pad stopped working.

Someone tell me, how come I could break a touch pad. One week later I was still waiting. When they finally call me they just repeated the same: you broke it.

Can HP consider the quality of their products. they don't care.

During the day though, if I don't have to, I don't carry it. The only way to reconnect is to restart the entire computer. It takes a lot longer to start up in general. This means that it gets HOT - especially under the video card (even if I'm not doing something graphic-intensive). I'm so glad this came with Vista. I wanted a bit of an upgrade to run my favorite game - The Sims 2 - better. */UPDATE*LIGHTSCRIBEAn awesome feature, but not necessarily needed.

It's hard to open with one hand and it's always dirty because of its finish.***Overall, I love this computer. :D *UPDATE* I've recently installed and played The Sims 3 - the game runs beautifully with crisp graphics, but is only a tad sluggish. He doesn't know how to fix it (of course, our IT guys. If I run it with the cooler, it stays between 90 and 115 degrees F, depending on how I'm sitting.(3) Speed. Colors aren't as vibrant as on everyone else's screens :((6) Clam-shell lid. Although it's under ten pounds, I prefer not to carry it if I don't have to. I have used it though, and since it's there, if I make a custom CD/DVD, I Lightscribe it.WIFI & BLUETOOTH CAPABILITIESA must-have for me. I also would have been happier if it also came with a full version of Office 2007 though, but I realize that could be a Microsoft issue.14.05" x 4.3" x 1.65" / 9.65lbsI take this laptop everywhere.

If not, it dies in two hours or less. HOWEVER, I am not able to connect to my school's WiFi. It's quiet, reasonably portable, and it's lasted me so far (compared to friends, other computers I've had, and other products in general that I've had, I'm happy). I've been able to run them, most of the time simultaneously, without many issues.320GB HARD DRIVEUnfortunately, almost a year later, this has become too small. I also need to run programs such as Photoshop (and other Adobe CS4 products), AutoCAD, and Sketch Up on a semi-daily basis.

no words to describe them). The exact reason is unknown as of now, but the IT guy believes it's because I have a "draft-n" WiFi card. No dents, chips, and only one scratch from an unrelated incident.I recommend this computer to anyone looking for these features at a good price. After almost a year, my computer's gotten sluggish.

I've also installed a program that monitors the internal temperature. I use WiFi everywhere, and for half of last year, used my Bluetooth-enabled phone to connect to the internet via phone-as- modem. I am a college design student using this computer for school and personal use. And seeing my friends computers at school, I feel that I got a good deal.

I thought 320GB would be enough, but I was wrong. I've had this computer since the beginning of August 2008. Now, I simply don't have any left.NVIDIA GEFORCE 9200MAnother reason behind purchasing this computer - again, primarily for The Sims 2. Even with basic computer upkeep like defrags and virus scans, etc. If I let the computer sit on a desk without the cooler, it can get around 130 degrees F and give me a critical warning, but will usually stay around 125.

I got what I need at a price I could afford, plus some extras that I didn't necessarily need, but am happy to have. So I've had to buy a laptop cooler that plugs into the USB. However, as a design student, I do this primarily because I carry a lot of supplies and projects all the time.***MISCELLANEOUSI've had a few issues here or there that are minorly annoying.(1) Volume buttons. Also, when at home, I can never stay connected to the wireless internet for long, whether it's the internet or my laptop. I need to purchase an external hard drive to store my documents. Another thing to haul around and add to the weight.

Would prefer a larger screen for tasks such as Photoshop or AutoCAD.4GB DDR2 MEMORYA primary reason behind purchasing this computer. My laptop's plugged in 95% of the time that I've used it. Quite annoying; especially on days that I'm getting kicked off every ten minutes.WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM 64BITI love Vista, and would never go back to XP. Compared to like-computers, I feel that I got a good deal. Sometimes, it'll get stuck orange for a while and no way to fix it - it just fixes itself eventually.(2) Battery life. I have had no major issues or meltdowns with this computer.KEY FEATURES AS LISTED:15.4" DISPLAY WITH 1280x800 RESOLUTIONPerfect size for me most of the time - when doing basic tasks such as web surfing, writing papers, research, etc.

This could be because I've used 300GB on my hard drive, I don't know.(4) QuickPlay. Don't really use it or need it.(5) Display. It's supposed to be orange when it's muted, and white when not. However, I have a hard time adjusting the volume via this button, and usually have to use the on-screen menu instead. Also, my mute button doesn't always display properly. I could have filled it up a LONG time ago, but I've had to force myself to keep an eye on space.

I love most of the features included, and am not really envious of too much that didn't come with it. However, it's annoying when I download a program and find that I can't run it because it's 32bit-only-compatible (because the website didn't specify). The "buttons" aren't really physical buttons so much as a touch-screen-like feature. I spent more money than as listed on Amazon (bought last year, and not on Amazon), but I don't regret it. I've dropped it once majorly (the strap on my bag broke and went crashing to the floor) - only thin cloth between it and floor - when I first got it; and it gets thrown around carelessly once in a while.

I took the weekend to load my copy of office and other programs I use. My previous laptop was an Acer. The sound card was great and the screen clear and crisp. He says they need to replace the hard drive and I have to send it back to their service center to do that.Think about it.

Things go well for two weeks and the thing starts to lockup again. They say it is two weeks at a minimum. So, I gave HP a shot.At first, it was great. lack of disk and memory meant it was time for an upgrade. I also thought HP was a good company that stood behind their product.

I had another disk (I'm a programmer) and loaded the OS on it. Many hours later the system is back up and running again. Not long after the crashing starts again. That means reloading apps and calling Microsoft to get new authorization codes.I called HP and they had me run the diagnostics which said the disk was bad. it looks good and was very fast. Everything was great until the following week when it suddenly locked up.A reboot and it hung at startup.

This started to happen regularly to the point where it crashed at least once a day. I bought this laptop because it had the right combination of price and components. Not wanting to go round the bend again with reloading the system, I bought a third drive. This time I tried Linux to see if maybe it was a Vista issue.

I call HP and they jerk me around on the telephone for several hours. They say I have to send the laptop to them and they will look at it. Three drives later and these guys want to go for drive number four.

it was a great machine and ran like a champ. That means a month later, I will be sending it back again. At this point I plan to buy another Acer and go about the process of getting my money back for this lemon. I had to go through the HP diagnostics to finally get the thing back up and running.

Finally, it would not come up at all and I had to reload the OS. I tell the non-english speaking rep that I'm not going to send it back and wait around forever. I don't recommend this product and I am unlikely to even buy anything from HP that will require me to deal with their service people.

I bought this one last month and is using it daily. It got great sound and got good processor speed and graphics card. I wonder, how come features like finger print and blue tooth is missing in the model I have received even though it was there in the product catalogue posted on Amazon.Anyway, its a great product with great features and is fully satisfying my requirements.Benzon John

I also got the bigger battery which is a 12 cell over the 8 cell. My research for a new computer started months in advance and this was one that I kept coming back to because of the price and tons of features/power. I replaced my 4 year old Dell with this because the Dell finally threw in the towel. When shopping I compared the Apple to this and couldn't find any advantages that the Mac would provide. This is way fast and handles all of my entertainment needs with no hassle. The only thing that I wish computer makers would avoid is the glossy look. It appears that people are suckers for Apple's marketing and social pressure because it's trendy. Great Buy and Function, Highly Recommend.
